We often get asked about which model is better than another. Is the Sorento better than the Sportage? How much better is the Telluride vs. the Seltos? Which Kia model is the best? In our opinion, every Kia model is the best. All the awards won by the Kia models, from Rio to the Telluride, are here to back us up. One question that gets asked more than any, is whether the Sorento or Sportage is the right for you. Each of these Kia vehicles offers incredible value and long-lasting reliability for drivers. We’ve put together a Sorento vs. Sportage comparison guide, to help answer the question of which one is best for you.

Engines and Power

The 2021 Kia Sportage and 2021 Kia Sorento share a similar base engine and produce around the same amount of power. Kia Sportage models fitted with the base 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine will generate up to 181 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque on the road. The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine in the Kia Sorento manufactures 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque.

Both the 2021 Sportage and 2021 Sorento offer a second available engine option. A 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 240 horsepower is available for the 2021 Kia Sportage and a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 281 horsepower is available for the Sorento.  Of the two vehicles, however, the Sorento is the only one to offer a hybrid model option.

Passenger and Cargo Space

Drivers looking for extra space on the road will find comfort in the 2021 Kia Sorento. The Sorento is the larger of these two Kia models and offers seating for six or seven passengers. The Sportage is the smaller of the two, making room for up to five passengers. Take a look at how the Kia Sportage and Kia Sorento compare in terms of passenger and cargo space:

Safety and Entertainment Technology

Both the 2021 Kia Sportage and 2021 Kia Sorento offer standard Kia Drive Wise safety technology. Kia has packed both models with advanced safety features, including Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Warning, and more. The Sportage has a standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment center in all four trim levels with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Sorento also offers this same setup in its three base models but opts for a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen in its top two trim levels.
